184 rue de Martainville, 76000 Rouen · Centre-Ville, ROUEN, France
The history of this strange place dates back to the Great Plague of 1348. Thousands died in Rouen and a new cemetery had to be opened: the Aître Saint-Maclou.
Plague victims were buried here in large communal graves. The court is surrounded by wooden panelled buildings with funerary elements such as a depiction of a macabre dance, a frieze decorated with sculls and leg bones etc.
